3. 2. 몽고메리 카운티 위원회 위원 (2012-2016)

샤피로는 약 15% 차이로 2022년 펜실베이니아 주지사 선거에서 마스트리아노를 꺾었다.


예비 선거를 앞두고 샤피로의 캠페인은 마스트리아노의 승리를 "도널드 트럼프가 지지하는 것의 승리"라고 부르는 주 전체 텔레비전 광고를 방영하며, 마스트리아노의 낙태 금지 입장과 2020년 미국 대통령 선거 감사 노력을 언급했다. 이 광고는 샤피로가 본선에서 맞붙기를 원하는 공화당 후보에 대한 "지지"로 여겨졌으며, 마스트리아노는 부동층 유권자들이 선출하기에는 너무 극단적인 인물로 보였다.[90][91]

임기 만료를 앞둔 주지사 톰 울프는 샤피로를 지지했다.[106][107] 그는 전 주지사 에드 렌델, 주 상원 의원 앤서니 H. 윌리엄스, 전 펜실베이니아 민주당 의장 마르셀 그로엔, 계획임신 행동 기금으로부터 지지를 받았다. 그는 또한 주 내에 8만 명 이상의 SEIU 회원을 보유한 4개의 SEIU 지역 노조로 구성된 SEIU 펜실베이니아 주 위원회로부터 지지를 받았다.[108]

4. 개인사

조슈아 데이비드 샤피로는 1973년 6월 20일 미주리주, 캔자스시티에서 태어났다.[7][8] 어린 시절, 아버지 스티븐 샤피로가 군의관으로 복무했던 미국 해군 기지에서 몇 년을 보냈고,[9] 이후 가족은 펜실베이니아주, 드레셔로 이사했다.[10] 아버지 스티븐은 펜실베이니아주, 이스트 노리턴의 Pediatric Medical Associates에서 소아과 의사로 일했으며,[11] 어머니 주디는 교사였다.[12]

샤피로는 유대교 가정에서 성장했다.[13] 6살 때, 펜실베이니아주, 엘킨스 파크의 베스 숄롬 회중 교회와 포먼 히브리 데이 스쿨을 통해 소비에트 유대인 거부자인 아비 골드스타인에게 편지를 쓰기 시작했고, "어린이, 아비를 돕다"라는 국제적인 편지 친구 프로그램을 시작했다.[14][15][16] 펜실베이니아주, 메리온 스테이션의 아키바 히브리 아카데미에서 고등학교를 다녔으며,[17] 4학년 때는 농구팀 주장이었다.[25]

로체스터 대학교에서 정치학을 전공하고 1995년 ''우등''으로 졸업했다.[49] 1992년에는 대학 역사상 처음으로 신입생 신분으로 학생회장에 당선되었다.[49] 이후 조지타운 로 센터에서 야간 학생으로 공부해 2002년 법학 박사 학위를 받았다.[49]

샤피로는 아내 로리를 아키바 히브리 아카데미(현재는 잭 M. 배럭 히브리 아카데미) 9학년 때 만났다.[232] 고등학교 시절 데이트를 했고, 대학교 졸업 후 워싱턴 D.C.에서 다시 만나 1997년 예루살렘에서 결혼했다.[16][232][233]

샤피로 부부는 네 자녀를 두고 있으며, 주지사 관저가 있는 해리스버그에 거주한다.[234] 보수 유대교 신자이며 코셔를 지킨다.[16][28]
